Catherine Gibson, loved her family
Catherine (Kay) Gibson, 100, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
Kay was born Aug. 24, 1922, in Philadelphia, Pa., to George and Patricia Marr. She attended school in Philadelphia, graduating from Kensington High School in 1939. During WW II, she worked for U.S. Treasury in Philadelphia. Later, she worked for NATSF until her retirement in 1983.
Kay joined the Order of Eastern Star in 1942. She was a member of Logan Chapter 313 in Philadelphia and served as Worthy Matron from 1966-67.
Kay and her husband, George, built their retirement home in Georgetown in 1980. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Georgetown, where she served as a member of the Willing Strivers. She was also a dedicated volunteer for the Pioneers in Georgetown for many years. Kay loved to knit and garden. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband George D. Gibson; and her brother George Marr. She is survived by her sister, Edith Calladine; her son, George M. Gibson and daughter-in-law Cheri of Tucson, Ariz.; her daughter, Cathy Petitgout and son-in-law George of Georgetown; grandsons, Luke and Mark Petitgout; granddaughter, Stacee Novotny and her husband Russ; six great-grandchildren, Isabela, Caroline, Harper, Catherine, Lincoln and Mason; and several nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Kay’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 1, at Short Funeral Services chapel, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where family and friends may call beginning at 1 p.m. for visitation. Burial service will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to Compassionate Care Hospice, 416 Williams St., Milford, DE 19963.
