Cape girls’ basketball holds awards banquet

The Cape girls’ basketball squad held their end-of-season banquet April 5 at Rehoboth Ale House on the Forgotten Mile. Vikings head coach Pat Woods presented the varsity awards while JV coach Noelle Alicea presented the junior varsity. Former Vikings forward Carlin Quinn helped to present the record breaking awards.

Freshman Amalia Fruchtman was presented the varsity Team MVP Award. Senior Megan Smith received the varsity Sportsmanship Award, aka the Best Teammate Award.

The JV Best Teammate Award went to Maya Yngve, and the JV Team MVP Award was presented to Jurnee White. 

Councilman Mark Schaeffer presented Cape head coach Pat Woods with a tribute from Sussex County Council that celebrated the Vikings’ season.

The Vikings won their fifth consecutive Henlopen North title and their third consecutive Henlopen Conference Championship, giving the team their fourth conference title in the past five years. They successfully completed a 20-game winning streak this season.

 

 

 

 

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
