Continuing its six-decade tradition of a Mother’s Day weekend opening, Rehoboth Beach’s Funland opened for the 2023 season May 13.
Just like last year, there was rain. Also like last year, customers didn’t care, because within minutes of opening there were hundreds of people milling about playing games and riding rides in the rain.
Funland opened in 1962. There have only been three years it didn’t open on Mother’s Day weekend – in 1979 when the new bumper car building was under construction; in 1989 when the stucco building was not yet completed; and in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
