Doris E. Lauer, generous lady
Doris E. (Fee) Lauer, 95, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 17, 2023. She was born Jan. 25, 1928, daughter of the late Lucy (Hull) Fee Bagby and Herbert Fee. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Jacob S. Lauer; her sister, Patricia Johnson; and niece, Paula Johnson.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail Lauer-Miller; two grandchildren, Julie Moreland and husband Chad, and Mark Miller and wife Lovena; and four great-grandchildren, Lucy and Paige Moreland, and Harper and Graham Miller. She also leaves behind countless friends and neighbors from over the years.
Doris lived in Baltimore, Md., and worked for A&P in the administrative offices until she retired to Lewes. She spent her last few months in Westminster, Md., with her family.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years and proudly held several offices in Maryland and Delaware, including Worthy Grand Matron of Delaware. She was also a guardian of Job’s Daughters.
She volunteered at Beebe Hospital and also volunteered driving a van to transport cancer patients to their appointments. Doris had a passion for helping people in the community, and was known as a generous lady who loved her family and friends. She also had a special place in her heart for her cat, Suzy. She enjoyed traveling and watching the Orioles and NFL games. She read the newspaper every day and stayed current on what was happening in the world. She was a great cook and loved crabcakes and spaghetti. She was witty with her words, and had a desire to live life to the fullest. If you knew her, you couldn’t help but love her. She will be missed.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 21, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
