Sixth annual Cruise-In is a celebration of oldies

30-car show offers preview of CHEER’s Car-Truck-Bike Show

The phrase oldie but goodie might make kids’ eyes roll and ears clog, but when it rings true, few things capture the attention of those eyes and ears more. Classic cars and tunes tend to be one of those showstoppers.

The sixth annual Cruise-In at the Milton CHEER Center was held June 7, featuring classic cars, classic tunes and an American classic – the hot dog. A total of 30 cars representing decades of designs from various automakers rolled into the parking lot along Route 16 to give car enthusiasts a glimpse of what is to come during CHEER’S 13th annual Car-Truck-Bike Show Saturday, Aug. 5.

Cars dating back as far as 1932 had hoods up, tops down and wore their best coat of paint to the event. The evening was a preview for CHEER’s Georgetown event, which is one of the larger fundraising events the organization puts on each year. Registration for Georgetown’s car show is $50 and includes a ticket to the champagne luncheon. The public can purchase luncheon tickets for $30. 

The car show runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Georgetown CHEER Center, 2050 Sand Hill Road. All proceeds benefit CHEER programs and services for seniors of Sussex County.

Tracy Koover’s 1951 Chevy Deluxe was the tone-setting car as folks strolled down the lineup of popped hoods and classic styles.

Jim Mitchell once owned a 1948 Plymouth Club Coupe in his early years. When the opportunity came to purchase an identical one that would have the same color, he told his wife, “There are wants and there are needs. This is a need.”
The chrome interior shines brightly in the 1948 Plymouth Club Coupe, but there doesn’t appear to be an auxiliary cord or rear camera in the dashboard. How could one listen to their podcast without a place to plug in or back up without cameras?
The 1957 Ford Thunderbirds appear to be “His” and “Hers,” but Tom Rosinki’s shade of pink is a tribute to flamingos. It does seem to fit perfectly next to Andy Rominiecki’s robin’s egg shell blue Thunderbird.
Donald Cagle built this 1940 Ford Coupe Deluxe from the ground up. His wife, Shelia Cagle, says Donald has the ability to see what a car can become, regardless of its current condition.
David Davis had the hood up and top down on this 1971 Buick Skylark.
The lettering on this 1951 Chevy panel truck may look faded, but it is the original lettering applied to the utility truck after it was sold at a Philadelphia dealership that Janet Cuculis said remains open to this day. The truck was restored by her and her husband Joe Cuculis.
Gary Johnson restored this 1932 Ford Roadster. The engine in this 91-year-old car said Corvette, for what that’s worth.
Another one of Gary Johnson’s masterpieces is this 1946 Chevrolet pick-up truck.
Notice the wood grain bottom Chuck Hall put in his 1970 Chevrolet C-10 half-ton pick-up.
David McCarthy drove his 1961 Pontiac Catalina to the Milton CHEER center from Seaford.
Jim Todd was worried about turning his 1991 Harley Davidson Fat Boy on as the 50/50 drawing was being held. Given the reaction of a small dog when he did turn the key, his concerns were valid.
