Wendy Jo Hutson, travel agent, businesswoman
Wendy Jo (Shinn) Hutson, 56, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 7, 2023, in Greensboro, Md.
She was born to Kathy and Scott Shinn Nov. 5, 1966, in Annapolis, Md. They lived in Cape St. John on the South River and she spent her childhood enjoying the beach and the neighborhood.
She graduated from Annapolis High School and The Wilma Boyd Academy in Pittsburgh, Pa., and worked as a travel agent there.
She married Ernest Duckett in 1990 in Annapolis, Md., and gave birth to a son and daughter. After the children were born, she became a licensed daycare provider out of her home in Edgewater, Md. She went back to being a travel agent after her children were in school. She and Ernest were divorced in 2013.
In 2015, she married Jeffrey Hutson and moved to Stevensville, Md., where she worked out of her home in sales at Heavy Hammer Co. in Annapolis. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, and she and Jeff had been members of Kent County Yacht Club and enjoyed boating with friends.
In 2020 in the midst of the pandemic, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a successful mastectomy, and was able to continue working and enjoying life until she and Jeff divorced in 2022.
In November 2022, she moved to Edgewater, Md., to live with her daughter Georgia, Georgia’s baby son Dakota, and his father Nick. The four of them rented a house there.
In 2023, Wendy bought a house in Greensboro, Md., for herself, Georgia, Nick and Dakota. She was raising Dakota alone when she died.
She was preceded in death by her father and sister. Wendy is survived by her mother, Kathy Holstrom; her daughter, Georgia Louise Duckett; her brother, Dylan Thomas Duckett; and her grandsons, Dakota Mercado and Jaxton Duckett.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
