Every year, I am reminded that for many in our community, holidays like Fourth of July are workdays, and summertime means a heavier workload, not vacation time.
I know for our team at Beebe Healthcare, many of our doctors, nurses and staff spend the holidays separated from their loved ones to take care of us and are working even harder during the summer months.
I’m proud to be a part of Team Beebe and to stand alongside others in this organization who have sacrificed so much to ensure that excellent care continues in every Beebe facility throughout our community. Their gifts of care always happen when we need it the most, whether it was a planned or emergency visit. They remain committed to and ready for all in our community, whether coming from near or afar, with excellent healthcare, compassion and hearts big enough to take care of everyone.
A reminder of the commitment our team members share stands at the main entrance of Beebe Healthcare’s Margaret H. Rollins Lewes Campus and the Specialty Surgical Hospital on our Rehoboth Health Campus. It is a beautiful hand-carved serpentine stone statue by an artist of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe. The sculpture is a larger version of the one given to our Daisy Award honorees that depicts the unique relationship nurses create with their patients. The sculpture is titled “A Healer’s Touch,” reflecting compassion, kindness and love across all cultures. Through the generosity of donors to the Beebe Medical Foundation, this statue is in tribute to all the nurses of Beebe Healthcare for the extraordinary, skillful and compassionate care they provide to Beebe patients and their families every day.
So, as we prepare to enjoy another summer here in our incredible community, I would like to encourage you to give thanks for our healthcare heroes, all of them! As the numbers in our community grow for the season, the workload that Beebe team members experience also increases. We along with our families, friends and guests rely on these workers being ready 24/7.
You can do your part also by seeing your primary care doctor for checkups, utilizing the Walk-In Care Centers throughout Sussex County, and saving the emergency room for emergencies. As our doctors always tell me, dial 911 in an emergency.
That being said, I’d like to suggest that we all take a moment during this summer season of fun and friends to personally thank a healthcare hero. You can do this with a call, a card, a hug, a smile or a simple word of thanks! You might also consider making a donation to the Beebe Medical Foundation in honor of them and their courageous service.
Now more than ever, I believe we all should reflect back to the compassion and caring that Beebe team members have shown us in recent years and throughout the 106 years of Beebe Healthcare’s history. From the bottom of my heart, I thank the community for its trust in and support of Beebe Healthcare, and I wish everyone a happy summer.
