Louise P. Smarrelli, devoted to family

Louise P. (Arthur) Smarrelli, 96, of Lewes, entered peaceful rest with her family by her side Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Beebe Healthcare. She was born Sept. 13, 1926, daughter of the late Louis L. and Thelma (Brittingham) Paynter.

A lifetime Delawarean and Lewes resident, Louise graduated from Lewes High School. From high school, she worked at several jobs, including Western Union, Fish Products, and the Court of Common Pleas, before forming her own businesses. She was the owner of Morning to Night Day Care and owner of Nanny Sitting Service from 1986-2017. In 1973, she married the love of her life, Claudio Smarrelli, and the two would spend the next five decades creating a beautiful life. Devoted to her family, more than anything, Louise enjoyed family gatherings and the time spent on Lewes Beach making many happy memories soaking up the Southern Delaware sun and listening to waves. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Louise will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have known her.

In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her first husband, John Arthur; her grandson, Walter E. Wyatt III; and her stepfather, Harry Sweigert. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Claudio T. Smarrelli; her daughters, Jean Wyatt and Patti Stoterau (Tom); her grandchildren, John Wyatt (Kristi), Tammy Costello and Joey Costello, and her great-grandchildren, Billy Costello, Ryan and Lane Wyatt, and Jeremy and Emily Whitman.  

There will be a private graveside service.
