Bodhi Kitchen in Rehoboth Beach set to open July 12
Second Block Hospitality Group’s Bodhi Kitchen is set to open Wednesday, July 12, in downtown Rehoboth Beach.
This is the second restaurant for Rehoboth-based Second Block Hospitality Group, which comprises David Gonce, Bob Suppies, Tyler Townsend and Lion Gardner. The group opened their first restaurant, Drift, around the corner on Baltimore Avenue in August 2022.
“It’s coming together, ready or not,” said Townsend during an interview July 10. “We’re in a good place, but it’s still hard to believe we’re going to have guests for a soft opening in a few hours.”
Townsend described the menu as Pan-Asian fusion – dumplings, noodles, fried rice. There’s a collection of menu items from Korea, Taiwan, Japan and China, he said.
“It’s elevated Asian street food,” he said. “A true Asian fusion restaurant.”
The interior of Bodhi looks almost nothing like the previous restaurants that have called the space home. The bar has been moved to the front; there are two rows of dining on the raised portion; an open railing separates the raised portion from the lower floor; and the space features Asian decor.
“It’s a dramatic change. This place has had so many restaurants over the years that we wanted to do something different,” said Townsend. “We really wanted to open it up and give it a more free-flowing feeling.”
Separate from Second Block Hospitality, Townsend, Suppies and Gonce were also the development team behind The Pines. Townsend said each restaurant is purposely unique.
“We’re a house of brands, not a branded house,” said Townsend, admittedly using a phrase someone else said to him about the group’s restaurants.
To begin, Bodhi Kitchen will be open 5 to 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 5 to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday.
Townsend said in fairly short order – after working out opening kinks in the first few weeks – Bodhi will start to serve lunch and feature a dim sum brunch on Sundays.
