Susan Rebecca Goeckeritz, retired nurse

Susan “Becky” Rebecca Goeckeritz, 95, of Georgetown, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2023. She was born Oct. 26, 1927, in Smyrna. Her family lived in both Smyrna and Middletown for many years. Her family moved to Georgetown in 1943 when she was in high school.

Becky graduated from Georgetown High School in 1946. She entered the nursing program at Easton Memorial Hospital in 1946 and graduated from the School of Nursing in 1949. After graduating from nursing school, she worked for Dr. Van Valkenburgh for three years. She then worked at Milford Memorial Hospital for a short time. The longest-held position in her nursing career was working for Dr. Albert J. Wildberger in his Georgetown medical practice for 27 years. After he passed, she worked the final year of her nursing career at Harrison House Nursing Home in Georgetown.

Becky enjoyed sewing, knitting, needlework, refinishing furniture, cooking, baking, gardening and canning. In her later years, she enjoyed reading and working on puzzle books. Becky was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church for many years. When she was no longer able to attend church, she enjoyed the biblical teaching of Dr. David Jeremiah on television and radio.

She married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Carl Goeckeritz, April 6, 1951. They were married for 69 years.

Becky is survived by her son, Dr. Bruce Edwin Goeckeritz and his wife Rita of Lexington, S.C.; daughter, Pamela “Pam” Julianna Goeckeritz of Bel Air, Md.; daughter-in-law, Joanna Meyers Jones (her eldest son Barry’s widow) and her now husband Bill Jones of Littlestown, Pa. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Leanna Goeckeritz Kikuta and her husband Chad, Melissa Goeckeritz Willke and her husband Nick, Rex Elliott Goeckeritz and his wife Lyndsay, and Karen Goeckeritz Fischer and her husband Landy; and great-grandchildren, Eleanor “Ella” and Madeline “Maddie” Fischer, Thane and Bren Goeckeritz, Logan Kikuta, and Ayla and Archie Willke. She is also survived by her nephews, Edwin Lambden, Jamie Wilson, and Kenneth and Richard Buckler; her nieces, Wendy Lambden Morris and Trudy Lambden Milburn, Alison Wilson Buckley, Kim Wilson Banks, Kay Wilson Carrier, and Lisa Wilson Phillips.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Carl Goeckeritz; her eldest son, Barry Carl Goeckeritz; her sister, Joyce Ann Wilson Lambden: and brother, Landis Wilson Jr.

At the time of her death, she was residing with her daughter, Pam, in Bel Air, Md.

Services and burial will be private.
