Douglas Lynn Bryan, skilled glass blower
Douglas Lynn Bryan, 72, of Mount Bethel, Pa., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family Saturday, July 29, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa. He was born April 30, 1951, in Lewes, son of William Lee Dunn and the late Marion Elizabeth Dunn.
Douglas led a trying life, contracting polio just as the vaccine was discovered. He underwent numerous surgeries as a young boy to combat the disease, leaving him scarred and awkward in his movements. Nevertheless, Douglas went on to achieve incredible things in life, not least of which was raising five exemplary children with his shared sense of humor and wit. All who met Douglas were surely impressed by his sense of fortitude and self-reliance. Though he struggled throughout his life, he rarely reached out for help. He excelled in a career in specialized glass blowing, creating complex glass chambers for multiple state-of-the-art applications. Douglas had a great passion for and was skilled in billiards, traits he passed down to his grateful children, along with his love of film, music, and art. He enjoyed NASCAR, was an avid football fan, an excellent cook, and a relentless jokester. Douglas was also a man who appreciated all things beautiful and held them in high regard. Above all, he cherished time spent with those he held most dear. Douglas was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and friend to all. Loved by many, he will be genuinely missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Douglas was preceded in death by his daughter, Naomi Bryan. He is survived by his children, Crystle, Vanessa, Josh and Tobias; his grandchildren, Xavier, Ash, Ryley, Leivi, Theon and Spencer; his father, William Dunn; and his innumerable aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 2 p.m. A celebration of Douglas’ life will take place from 4 to 7 p.m., at American Legion Post 17, 113 American Legion Road, Lewes.
