The Sussex Academy volleyball squad hosted a five-team play day scrimmage Aug. 19 where the Seahawks, Sussex Central, Delaware Military Academy, Polytech and Milford went head to head to prep their skills for the upcoming season.
“We were really excited to throw our new talent and new lineups into this weekend’s scrimmage,” said Seahawks head coach Hailee Gooch. “It was also exciting to see the talent across all of the teams. This is a pure example of how far southern Delaware teams have come.”
The Seahawks will travel across Georgetown to face the Golden Knights in a dual-meet scrimmage Friday, Aug. 25. They open their season at Middletown Friday, Sept. 8. There will be online tickets only. No tickets will be sold at the gate and general admission is $7.
The Golden Knights play host to Queen Anne’s High School Wednesday, Sept. 6.
“I thought we had good leadership and played well overall,” said Sussex Central head coach Mike Adams. “We have many options offensively. Also, our defense and serve receive was solid throughout the play day. Our serving is a strength for us. Sussex Central will be very competitive in the Henlopen Conference.”
Milford opens at Odessa High Thursday, Sept. 7.
Polytech opens with Early College High School at DSU Tuesday, Sept. 12.
