Gertrud F. Pitman, world traveler
Gertrud F. “Trudy” Pitman, 94, of Lewes passed away Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023, at Country Rest Home in Greenwood. She was born Sept. 2, 1928, in Ziegenhain, Germany, daughter of the late Martin and Elisabeth Kliem.
Trudy came to the U.S. in 1954, via Fort Meade Army Base, Maryland, with her then-husband, Joseph Edward Pitman and their son, Ralph Edward Pitman. She enjoyed a career as a bank teller for BGE, Baltimore Gas & Electric Co., retiring after 25 dedicated years in 1992. After retirement, Trudy traveled the world, and was seen on camels and before the great pyramids. She visited the historic Walls of Berlin, China and Jerusalem, as well as many other destinations on the European Continent, well into her 80s! Trudy resided in Glen Burnie, Md., for more than 55 years and passed away in Delaware after a brief time with Delaware Hospice, near her daughter’s home. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Loved by many, she will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, Trudy was preceded in death by her son, Ralph Edward Pitman; her siblings: Frieda Boehler, Fritz Kliem and Heinz Kliem; and her sister-in-law, Sigrid Kliem. She is survived by her daughter, Susan England Wilson of Lewes; her grandchildren: Sarah, Janis, Mary and William; her great-grandchildren: Rowan, Jacob, Noah, Victoria and Jack; her brother, Kurt Kliem and his wife Rosmarie of Germany; her nieces: Gudrun, Barbara and Anne; and her nephew, Martin.
Trudy will be privately laid to rest. May she have eternal rest and peace in God’s kingdom forevermore. Amen.
