LGBTQ+ art workshop with John Donato set Sept. 14

September 9, 2023

The Lewes Public Library will welcome LGBTQ+ community members, family members and allies for a special art session with renowned local artist John Donato, Create Whimsical Masterpieces for Better Health, at 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14, at the library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes.

The pastel-based workshop will incorporate meditative techniques to provide a cathartic creative experience, resulting in beautiful and meaningful works of art. Participants will also be invited to share their finished pieces in “Healing Ink,” an upcoming book of art and writing.

“The workshop is a brave space for people to explore their well-being through artistic exploration, collaboration and reflection,” said Donato. “Using revitalizing artistic activities, participants will enhance their understanding of personal wellness while crafting visually stunning roadmaps for pursuing their goals.”

The workshop is free, and all materials will be provided. No experience is necessary. Registration is required. To register, go to lewes.lib.de.us or call the library at 302-645-2733. Participants ages 13 and above are welcome.

An experiential teaching artist, Donato has delighted thousands of children, youth and adults in the Mid-Atlantic Region with his murals, paintings, community art, and creative empowerment and wellness classes. Donato’s creative energy and style coupled with his commitment to delivering unforgettably original personal growth activities has made him a sought-after force among experiential teaching artists.

The event is sponsored, in part, by a grant from the Network of the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health.
