Joseph H. Dazio Jr., cherished family
Joseph H. Dazio Jr., 77, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023, after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer. He departed this world surrounded by his loving family, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy that will forever be treasured.
He was born Feb. 23, 1946, to Joseph “Mohawk” Dazio and Margaret “Maggie” Sciaretta. Joseph was an adoring father and a doting grandfather, and he was the loving husband of Sandra “Sunday” (nee Montgomery) Dazio for 59 years. Their bond was a testament to power, love, and commitment throughout their marriage. They weathered life’s joys and challenges, providing unwavering support and love to one another.
A lifelong resident of Coatesville, Pa., Joseph attended Coatesville High School and graduated in 1965. An avid sports player and fan, he was on the inaugural Caln Little League Team. He also was a player, and later a coach of the Midget Football League. His high school accomplishments include being the starting quarterback and middle linebacker for the Red Raiders. He was also on the 1964 All Ches-Mont Football Team.
Joseph was a steelworker for the local steel company for over 30 years. He worked his way up to a management position, and cherished the many friendships that he developed with his coworkers. He participated in his community as a member of the Sons of Italy, president of the Chester Valley Swim Club, and a member of several other local organizations.
As a father, Joseph was an inspiration to his children. His son, Joseph Dazio, and daughter, Christina (Stafford) Long were blessed to have him as their guiding light throughout their lives. He instilled in them the values of compassion, integrity, and perseverance that shaped them into the individuals they are today.
In addition to his immediate family, Joseph is survived by his brother, Michael Dazio, who has shared a bond of brotherhood that was unbreakable. They laughed together, supported one another, and created countless memories that will live on forever. Joseph is also survived by his sister-in-law, Joann Clay, who had a special place in his heart. Her presence brought much joy and laughter to his life. He also leaves behind his niece, Lisa (Matthew) Chamberlain, who was a source of pride and admiration.
The greatest joy in Joseph’s life came from being a grandfather. His granddaughters, Lauren (William) McCann and Alyssa Dazio, along with his great-niece, Nina (Andrew) Moore, were the apples of his eye. He took immense delight in watching them grow and flourish, providing unwavering love and guidance along the way.
Furthermore, Joseph was blessed with five great-grandsons and a great-great-nephew and -niece, who brought him immeasurable happiness and filled his days with joy.
Joseph was a true family man who cherished and nurtured the bonds of kinship. He possessed a kind and generous spirit, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His warm smile, infectious laughter, and compassionate nature touched the lives of all who had the privilege to know him.
Though Joseph’s battle with cancer was long and arduous, he faced each day with unwavering strength and grace. His resilience and determination were an inspiration to all who witnessed his journey. Throughout it all, his family stood beside him, providing support and love, and creating cherished memories in the face of adversity.
While we mourn the loss of Joseph, we take solace in knowing that he now rests in eternal peace. Free from pain and suffering. Joseph’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
