Iris Bodin Newsom, loved literature, the arts

Iris Bodin Newsom died at home surrounded by family Friday, Dec. 23, 2022, due to health complications from a hip fracture in 2020. 

She was born Iris Delgado in New York City Aug. 31, 1937. She attended Elizabeth Barrett Browning School for gifted students in the Bronx, Bronx High School of Science, Hunter College in Manhattan, and University of Washington, where she majored in Russian. Her career as an editor spanned Alfred Knopf, Smithsonian Institution, and the Library of Congress, where she greatly enjoyed relationships with a wide array of authors while editing the Quarterly Journal of Acquisitions. 

Family, friends, colleagues, and anybody who shared a meal or cocktails with her will remember Iris’ grace, intimate conversational style, sense of humor, and passion for literature and the arts.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe and Graciela Delgado; and her brother, Ivan Delgado. She is survived by her husband of over 40 years, Jon Newsom; former husband, Aaron Bodin; daughter, Lynn Carn Myers (husband Dan); son, Ethan Bodin; son, Mark Bodin (wife Carrie); grandchildren, Frank and Maria Myers, and Eva, Charlotte, Dylan and Max Bodin.
