Martin E. Blackburn, gifted carpenter

Martin Edward Blackburn of Millville passed away after a brief illness Friday, Sept. 15, 2023. He was born April 16, 1951, to Barbara and James Blackburn.

Martin was the oldest of 10 children. He adored his siblings and took his role as leader very seriously, always lending a hand or offering words of advice. Martin was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Delaware National Guard before returning to this true calling as an incredibly gifted carpenter. 

Martin is survived by his wife, Erika Blackburn; daughters, Angela Blackburn (Barb) and Rebecca Bowen (Nate); son, Jeffrey Blackburn (Holly); six grandsons and a granddaughter; brothers Steve Blackburn and Danny Blackburn; sisters, Lois Robinson, Diane Stout, Shirley Blackburn and Jenny Blackburn; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Loved beyond words, Martin will be missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on. 

A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 21, at Melson’s Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View. Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 22, at the funeral home, followed by a brief service from 1 to 2 p.m.
