Rotary Club seeks Flags For Heroes donations

Organization says annual fundraiser lagging behind
October 20, 2023

The Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club is asking for donations for its annual Flags for Heroes campaign.

Organizers say they need help to meet their goals because individual and corporate sponsorships are down this year.

“Through our Flags for Heroes, and other fundraising programs and events, our Rotary Club has donated many hundreds of thousands of dollars to local charitable organizations over the years,” said Chuck Ward, past president of the Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club.

Ward said the Rotary donated more than $90,000 to community organizations in Sussex County in 2022.

Starting Saturday, Nov. 4, volunteers will place hundreds of American flags in front of the Cape Henlopen School District administration building along Kings Highway in Lewes.

Each flag will have a medallion honoring that donor’s hero, whether it be an active military member, veteran, first responder, teacher or anyone else who has made a difference in the life or lives of others.

The annual Flags for Heroes ceremony will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 11, in front of the Cape district office. The scheduled keynote speaker is Lt. Col. Marques A. Bruce, a West Point graduate.
