Lewes Fire Department to host open house Oct. 19
Lewes Fire Dept. Inc. will host its fourth annual open house from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 19, at Station 2, 32198 Janice Road, near the Nassau Bridge. Parking will be available at the Lewes Senior Center and the Red Men’s Lodge.
Free van shuttle service will be provided to transport visitors to and from their cars. The event will feature children’s activities, equipment display, live fire and vehicle extrications, CPR demonstrations, a smoke house, EDITH (Exit Drills in the Home) presentations and a drone station. Kids can try on small-scale gear to really feel the weight of what it takes to be a firefighter. The LFD Auxiliary will have a fire-themed decorate-and-eat sugar cookie station.
Lewes Fire Dept. T-shirts will be offered for sale in adult and children’s sizes. Other fire department merchandise will also be available. Lewes FD now accepts Venmo for easy purchasing.
Food trucks from Fat Vinny’s, Tipsy Flamingo, SmashMouth Burgers and Flippin’ Waffles will be on-site for dinner and drink purchases. Children are invited to take part in a scavenger hunt. Mascot Sparky will be available for high fives and photo opportunities throughout the night. A raffle will include items such as men’s and women’s bikes, Lewes Fire Dept. memorabilia, food truck gift certificates and the opportunity for four people to ride in a fire truck during the Lewes Christmas Parade.
Information will be available for anyone who would like to learn more about joining the Lewes Fire Department. There are numerous ways to help and volunteer. Since 1796, citizens of Lewes have stepped forward to join the ranks of the city’s volunteer fire service. For 200 years, the association has been filled with men and women wanting to serve others.
