Beebe Medical Foundation celebrated the 10th anniversary of the 1916 Club Oct. 19 in Dewey Beach.
The club gets its name from the year Beebe Hospital was founded by Drs. James and Richard Beebe. Club members commit to donating at least $1,916 annually. The club was founded in 2013 with 47 members. Today, it boasts 580 members and generates more than $1 million per year for Beebe Healthcare. Of the 47 founding members, 20 are still giving annually.
Within the club, there are additional levels of donation: President’s Circle, $5,000 or more; Founder’s Circle, $10,000 or more; and Visionary’s Circle, $19,160 or more. Donations can be directed to specific funds or service lines, or they can be designated for the greatest need.
The annual celebration, held this year at Lighthouse Cove in Dewey Beach, attracted about 350 people. Beebe Medical Foundation President Tom Protack said this event is unique in that it’s a celebration to thank members for their continued support, not a fundraising event. Member
However, by being part of the club, members are granted access to private and sold-out events throughout the year. They also have opportunities to meet Beebe’s leadership panel, including new doctors and executive staff, to learn about initiatives in Sussex County. Members are also invited to ribbon-cutting events and tours of Beebe’s new facilities and programs. Recently, members were able to participate in a demo with Beebe’s robotic surgery department, even having the opportunity to use the tool.
