Elks host bowling night for Stockley Center residents
Residents and staff from the Stockley Center enjoyed a fun time of bowling and fellowship in the hall of Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 in Lewes.
The Elks Community Outreach Committee has established a great relationship with the Stockley Center. Located in Georgetown, the center is a residential facility for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The inaugural bowling night was a great opportunity for the residents to participate in an easy activity in a new environment. With the help of an electronic-controlled ramp device called Poss-i-Bowl, wheelchair-using players are able to bowl with just a gentle touch of a button. They also met new friendly people, and shared smiles and excitement.
Next month, the Elks will again be decorating an angel tree, a Christmas tree adorned with angel tags requesting specific holiday gifts members can provide for the residents. Each tag will have the age, gender and wishlist of a Stockley Center resident.
Last year, members generously fulfilled the holiday wishes of 41 residents, and also filled a request for 17 MP3 players to supply residents with some new sources of music and stories.
It is a source of great pride for the Cape Henlopen Elks to support a greater connection with all members of the community; part of its motto is Elks Care – Elks Share.
