Anna Marie Jones, enjoyed painting
Anna Marie Jones, 97, of Front Royal, Va., beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went home to be with her Lord Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, passing peacefully at home with loved ones.
Born July 1, 1926, in Richmond Hill, N.Y., Anna moved to Somerville, N.J., as a toddler. She graduated from Somerville High School, where she enjoyed art class and mastered secretarial skills. Upon graduation, she became an executive secretary for the Johns-Manville plant manager in Manville, N.J.
Anna married John H. Jones of Bridgewater, N.J., in 1950, moved to Bridgewater, and raised two baby boomer daughters. When the children started school, she returned to the workforce as a secretary for Bridgewater-Raritan School District. During this time, she also served as a Sunday school teacher at First Methodist Church in Somerville. Upon retirement, Anna and John moved to Milton. A short while later, after Anna lost her husband, she began painting again, resuming a lifelong passion. Self-taught, she created hundreds of beautiful paintings that will remain a lasting legacy for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. At age 75, Anna moved to Cherry Hill, N.J., to be near one of her daughters, and later she moved to Front Royal, Va., in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley to live with her other daughter.
Anna has passed from this life to be home with her Lord and her husband, John; her sister, Dorothy; her mother, Marie; her father, Charles; and many beloved grandparents, aunts, and uncles. She will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind, her daughters, Deborah Maher and Marianne Weddle (Sam); grandchildren, Erin Meyer (Scott), Kristen Weddle, Jonathan and Dylan Maher, great-grandchildren, Mary, John, James and Timothy Meyer; and foster child, Glenn Young.
Anna always ended her telephone calls and visits with her family by saying "I love you more." Her family will "Miss you more."
Anna will be interred in a private service in Delaware.
Arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Winchester, Va.
