Robert Charles Richardson, decorated veteran
Robert “Bob" Charles Richardson, 77, of Lewes, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born Jan. 26, 1946, in Cumberland, Md., son of the late Walter and Marguerite E. (Poling) Richardson.
Bob graduated from Allegany High School class of 1964. After graduation, Bob enlisted in the Navy as a corpsman and proudly served in Vietnam with the Marines. Due to his bravery in combat, Bob was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Action Ribbon. After his honorable discharge, he furthered his education at the University of Baltimore, where he received a bachelor of science degree in 1980. His path would lead him to a lengthy and successful career with Materials Management as a software consultant.
Bob married Patricia (Himmer) Richardson Oct. 27, 1967, in Puerto Rico, and the two would spend the next 56 years creating countless memories and raising their family.
Bob truly enjoyed golfing, especially in his golden years, and rocking in his rocking chair on the back porch with Pat. Bob genuinely loved his retirement with his wife, and spending time together was one of his greatest joys. More than anything, he treasured time spent with his family and friends. Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His presence will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brother, Jim Richardson; and his stepmother, Betty Richardson. He is survived by his loving wife, Pat Richardson; his daughters, Kim Roney (Tim) of Raleigh, N.C.; Pam Moffitt (Jay) of Lewes; his grandson, Jacob Moffitt of Lewes; his sister, Linda Idol (Bill) of Fairfax, Va.; his niece, Carrie Richards (Jason) of Chantilly, Va.; his great-nephew, Rory Richards of Chantilly; his nephews, Jeff and Jim of California; and extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 15, at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends and family can visit beginning at 10 a.m.
