Roundabout rolling along near Five Points
The roundabout at the intersection of Route 9, Plantation Road and Beaver Dam Road is taking shape. When complete, drivers traveling southbound on Route 1 will be able take a new access road straight to the intersection. NICK ROTH PHOTOS

The long-awaited roundabout at the intersection of Route 9, Plantation Road and Beaver Dam Road continues to take shape just west of Five Points near Lewes. The formidable intersection that bewildered many drivers was closed in November to allow contractors to connect all legs of the roundabout to existing roads. A portion of the roundabout is expected to open in March, with it being fully operational by Memorial Day.

A section of Plantation Road has been abandoned as crews work to tie the road into the new roundabout.
New entrances to Lowe’s have been added to Shady Nook Drive, giving Route 1 drivers direct access to the home improvement store.
Drivers entering Lowe’s from Shady Road may only use the rear entrance to the parking lot, as a portion of Shady Nook Drive is limited to bus traffic only.
