Jacqueline C. Chmiel, dedicated nurse, volunteer

Jacqueline C. Chmiel, 78, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023, at AccentCare at Christiana Hospital in Newark. She passed surrounded by her family after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born March 21, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of the late Sigmund and Lena Szarchuk Rudzinski.

Jacqueline was a graduate of R.T.T. Gwynedd Mercy College and went on to obtain her nursing degree from Thomas Jefferson University. Her career path led to a position in radiation therapy, which later led to her serving as a radiation therapy tech supervisor at Cooper Hospital in Camden, N.J., as well as serving as director of RTT School at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pa.

Following retirement and moving to Delaware, Jacqueline began making lampwork bead jewelry for sale at craft fairs, as well as volunteering at Delaware Hospice. She was often found helping those who were sick or in need of a helping hand.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Stan Chmiel; her son, Eric Chmiel; her grandson, Cameron Chmiel; one sister, Pat Bohn; brothers, Rich and Ken Rudzinski; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 27, at Parsell Funeral Homes Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jacqueline's honor may be made to the American Cancer Society, donate.cancer.org.
