Chamber music concert set at St. Peter’s Lewes Jan. 7

January 4, 2024

Soprano Elissa Edwards, harpsichordist Joyce Chen and violinist Shelby Yamin will present a musical program from 17th century Italy titled “La stella di Betlemme” (The star of Bethlehem) at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 7, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Second and Market streets, Lewes.

The concert is sponsored by the parish’s St. Cecilia Music Guild, which offers a season of quality musical events featuring instrumental and vocal musicians. Concerts are free to all, and seating begins 30 minutes prior to each performance.

Edwards is a sacred music specialist who has been a featured soloist in oratorio and cantata performances across the United States and in Britain.

A native of Taiwan, Chen is a 2018 recipient of an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Delaware Division of the Arts. She earned a doctor of music arts degree in harpsichord from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and is a doctoral candidate in historical musicology at Princeton University.

Yamin, equally adept on both the modern and baroque violin, brings signature liveliness to her performances. She collaborates with a wide range of New York-based ensembles and with Cleveland’s Les Delicés.
