AVID graduates discuss college life with Beacon Middle School students

The Advancement Via Individual Determination program is available to middle and high school students at Cape Henlopen School District.

The program is geared toward those who rank in the academic middle and have a desire to attend college, and the willingness to develop skills and strategies that are necessary for academic success.

One of the many benefits of AVID is the opportunity to learn more about college directly from students who passed through the program themselves. On both Dec. 20 and Jan. 5, some of the 2016 AVID graduates from Beacon Middle School returned to their old stomping grounds to discuss their high school and current college experiences. All AVID students in grades six to eight had the opportunity to hear from the Cape alums and gain more insight about finding a good college fit. Students also shared their insights on the necessary skills needed to "adult," and about the need for pursuing their passions through Cape pathway options.
