HealTree Movement as Medicine series kicks off Feb. 1

January 22, 2024

HealTree will present Movement as Medicine, a series facilitated by Amber Starr Davis, from 10 to 11:15 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 1, continuing weekly through Feb. 29, at 1632 Savannah Road, Suite 10, Lewes.

Movement is an important part of overall health. General physical activity has positive effects on brain health, weight management, disease prevention and ease of life. Range of motion, mobility and flexibility are integral parts of a movement practice. Benefits include heightened sense of proprioception, maintenance of joint articulation and strength, increased ability to regulate the nervous system, and longevity.

Proprioception is the ability to control the body in space. Maintaining joint articulation increases flexibility and strength. Movement increases the body's ability to burn energy, and burning energy may increase longevity. Movement also shifts the focus from mind to body, allowing for the increased nervous system regulation.

In this workshop, participants will be guided through practices that move the joints through full range of motion. This practice is designed to increase the mind-body connection in a safe, accepting environment. Each class will begin and end with a grounding practice to encourage body awareness. Cost for the series is $125. Drop-ins are welcome at $30 per session.

Davis always had an affinity for learning and creating. She holds an associate degree in landscape ornamental horticulture, with 10 years of experience working in the field. Her passions expanded to herbal medicine, 200-hour yoga teacher training and five years of teaching, plus a love for body movement training. She is a personal trainer with multiple certifications and most recently has been delving into spirituality, specifically holding space for women’s growth through global sisterhood and women’s circles.
