John K. (Jack) Ward, Air Force veteran

John K. (Jack) Ward, 94, of Catonsville, Md., formerly of Rehoboth Beach and Elkridge, Md., passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023. Jack was born Aug. 19, 1929, in Baltimore, Md., to the late Margaret and James J. Ward. He was a graduate of Mt. St. Joseph High School, and a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1948-50. Jack married his late wife, Mary T. Hickey, in 1954. She passed away in 2011.
 
While living in Rehoboth Beach, Jack was active with VFW Post 7447, serving as post commander and captain of the honor guard. Every Veterans Day, Jack could be found at Rehoboth Beach Bandstand, honoring his fellow veterans. Jack was also a volunteer assistant wrestling coach at Lewes Middle School. He attended St. Edmond Catholic Church.
 
Jack moved back to Maryland in 2020 to be closer to his family. He is survived by his four children, Michael Ward, Mary Beth Starr, Colleen Smith and Teresa Ward. Jack is also survived by six grandchildren and twin great-granddaughters. In addition to his wife and his parents, Jack is also predeceased by his six siblings.
 
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Dec. 30, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Elkridge, Md. Burial was held at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge.
 
Donations in Jack’s name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of choice.
