Cape boys’ and girls’ swim teams remain unbeaten

Squads earn wins over Milford, Delmarva Christian

The Vikings boys’ and girls’ swim teams each earned a 7-0 record with wins over the Bucs and Royals Jan. 23 at the Milford Boys & Girls Club pool.

The Cape boys finished off the Bucs 83-11 and downed the Royals 83-11. The Vikings took first place in all 11 events.

Shane Toback, Holden Tighe, Brian Fleming and Kevin Lewandowski took top honors in the 200 medley relay with a 1:45.90 time. Cole Huxtable won the 200 freestyle in 2:00.16. Tighe won the 200 medley relay with a 2:05.31 finish. Fleming took first in the 100 fly with a 57.75 time. Jack Ellis won the 50 free at 23.57. Lewandowski won the 100 free with a 51.70 time. Toback finished first in the 500 free at 5:27.06. The 200 free relay was won by Lewandowski, Toback, Fleming and Tighe with a 1:32.60 finish. Trent Neal won the 100 backstroke in 59.75. Luke Robertson won the 100 breaststroke at 1:12.63, and Tighe, Toback, Fleming and Lewandowski finished the meet with a 3:27.97 victory in the 400 free relay.

The Lady Vikings took first in nine of 11 events, defeating the Bucs 69-24 and the Royals 72-19.

The 200 medley relay was won by Emma Reist, Hayden Hazzard, Jenna Reinhold and Haley Hassell with a 2:12.84 time. Reinhold won the 200 free in 2:11.46. Isla Touw won the 200 IM at 2:34.07. Anna Sullivan took first in the 50 free with a time of 26.71. Reinhold won the 100 fly in 1:07.53. Touw took first in the 100 free with a 59.90 time. Hassell won the 500 free in 6:05.28. Reist, Reinhold, Touw and Sullivan won the 200 free relay with a 1:53.81 time. Kayla Droge, Hassell, Touw and Sullivan won the 400 free relay in 4:23.62. 

Delmarva Christian’s Claudia Warren won the 100 backstroke with a 1:20.06 time, and Milford’s Carly Mackert won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:19.95.

“We swam pretty well,“ said Cape head coach Bill Geppert. “I was concerned about missing so many meets and practices due to the weather. We also had some kids that were sick. Overall, they responded and put up some good times.”
