Joyce Kay Schmierer Moore, bus driver, state retiree

Joyce Kay Schmierer Moore passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024. She was born Dec. 13, 1943.

Joyce Kay was a lifelong resident of Milton. Shortly after graduating from Milton High School Class of 1961, she married and started her family.  While driving a school bus for many years, she received her master’s degree in psychology. She was dedicated to her field and worked until her retirement as a psychiatric social worker for the State of Delaware.     

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Dorothy Schmierer; her son, Charles "Chuck" E. Moore Jr. and his wife Ruth; and granddaughter, Megan M. Moore.   

Joyce Kay is survived by her sons, Danny Moore (Judy) and Richard J. Moore (Denise); daughter, Delema "Teet" Sharp; grandsons, Christopher L. Moore (Ashley), R.J. Moore (Ashley), Billy Turner Jr. (Kelly) and Chaz Moore; granddaughter, Madison Moore; great-granddaughters; Katelynn Moore and Zoey Turner; great-grandsons, Jackson Moore, Croix Moore, and Cody, Jaxson and Bryce Turner; and sister, Norlyn F. Ritter. 

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 16, at Broadkiln VFW Post 6984, 1000 Atlantic Ave., Milton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in her memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 42040, Oklahoma City, OK 73123; or Lupus Foundation of America, 2121 K St., NW, Ste. 200, Washington, DC 20037.
