Chase Bank celebrates first Sussex branch with ribbon cutting
Chase Bank celebrated the opening of its first Sussex County branch with a ribbon cutting Jan. 31.
The bank has actually been open since mid-December. Felipe Gutierrez, branch manager, said the community’s reception has been great. He said customers tell the staff they’re glad the bank is in the Cape Region and then ask why it took so long to open one in Sussex County.
Tom Horne, head of Chase Consumer Banking, oversees the company’s 4,800 branches across the country, but he’s based in Wilmington and has a house in Rehoboth. The Delaware branches have a special place in his heart, he said.
Horne said he stopped by the branch four days after it opened to check on how things were going and Gutierrez reported that it was off to a great start. There have been 60 appointments already and the bank is booked through the month, he said.
Four years ago, Chase had no banks in Delaware, said Horne. With this bank, and the one that just opened in Dover, there are now 11, he said.
The bank is located on the corner lot of Route 1 and Old Landing Road, where Pizza Hut used to be. The old restaurant was demolished in April 2023 to make way for the new 3,293-square-foot building.
