Edward Louis Simon, veteran, state retiree

Edward Louis Simon, 77, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024. Born May 23, 1946, in Wilmington, son of the late Michael and Rose Simon, Ed was a lifelong resident of Wilmington until moving to Milford in 2003.
He graduated from the University of Delaware in 1968. Ed enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two years at Arlington National Cemetery as part of the honor guard. Ed worked for the Delaware Department of Labor for 32 years as a labor market analyst and eventually became the chief of the Office of Labor Market Information. He was highly regarded and honored for his in-depth knowledge of Delaware’s economic and labor needs.
Ed was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan. He enjoyed attending games with family on Sunday afternoons. Ed particularly enjoyed the outdoors, including walking and gardening.
He was past treasurer of Adas Kodesch Shel Emeth Synagogue in Wilmington, president of the Montefiore Mutual Benefit Society of Delaware, and president of Seaside Jewish Community in Rehoboth Beach.
He was the beloved husband of Patricia Simon, father of Joel Simon (Alyssa), and grandfather of Ethan and Emily Simon.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Monday, Feb. 12, at Schoenberg Memorial Chapel, 519 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington. Shiva will be observed at 7 pm, Monday, Feb. 12 at the late residence, as well as 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the home of Joel and Alyssa Simon.
