The newest members of the Dewey Beach Police Department were sworn into their roles at a small ceremony March 2 at Hyatt Place Dewey Beach.
Police Chief Constance Speake said officers Colby Buchert and Dylan Dowling were seasonals last summer. They were offered full-time positions based on their performance, she said, and graduated from the police academy March 1 after six months of training.
“We’re so happy and proud to have them as part of our team,” Speake said, noting last summer was the first time in her career she had worked with seasonal officers.
Buchert and Dowling will spend the next 12 weeks in field training, she said. The department currently has two open full-time officer positions.
