Cape High’s future teachers shine at state conference
Cape High’s future teachers shined at the Delaware Educators Rising State Leadership Conference in February, where all students medaled and one team earned a spot in the national competition.
Brianna Porter earned an officer position on the state leadership team, and juniors Daniel Bila, Lily Phile, Brielle Ross and Jack Thomson placed gold in the public service announcement category, qualifying them for the Educators Rising National Conference June 28-July 1, in Washington, D.C.
Students said they chose to create a PSA video to recruit teachers to the field, and had to discuss their creative process with judges before and after its viewing.
Brielle said they included information about teacher pay, diversity in teaching and the need for more male teachers, and Daniel said the video also stressed how teachers can improve communication with students.
With feedback from state judges, students said they plan to make improvements to their video before competing against other gold medalists from across the country.
Hazel Getzlaff and Jasmine Piper earned silver medals in the Children's Literature Book for Pre-K category, Allie Miller earned silver in the Job Interview event, and Abigail Gover and Christopher Fulton earned bronze in the Children's Literature for K-3 category.
