March 12, 2024

Dr. Anusha Vuppala, a rheumatologist at Delaware Arthritis, announced she has published an article in Arthritis Care and Research, a peer-reviewed rheumatology research journal.

Her piece focuses on sarcoidosis and possible complications in the treatment of immunosuppressed patients including fungal infections like histoplasmosis.

Rheumatology is a field that treat patients with different musculoskeletal conditions affecting the immune system including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, sarcoidosis and lupus, as well as osteoarthritis and osteoporosis.

Sarcoidosis is an autoimmune disorder that causes tiny nodules called granulomas to develop in body organs. It can affect multiple organs including lungs, eyes, skin, heart, muscles, liver and bones. Rheumatologists typically treat sarcoidosis with glucocorticoids and other immunosuppressive therapies.

Vuppala trained in pediatric and adult rheumatology at Louisiana State University. She is currently evaluating and accepting new patients at the Lewes and Ocean View offices of Delaware Arthritis. For more information, go to delawarearthritis.com.
