James Brackett Jr., loved sports
James “Mickey” Brackett Jr., 76, formerly of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Friday, March 8, 2024. Mickey was born Dec. 16, 1947, son of the late James Brackett Sr. and Bernice Brackett, and brother of the late Carroll Brackett (Ruth).
He was a graduate of Boonsboro High School in 1965, where he met his wife of 56 years, Patricia (Charles) Brackett. He lived the last 16 years in Long Neck. Mickey had a passion for sports, playing softball for 30 years with the Keedysville Church and Hub City leagues. He was a huge Jets and Yankees fan! Mickey protected his community as a security guard for Pot-Nets through his retirement. He was a true friend to all; he could never meet a stranger. Mickey had a presence about him that could light up any room, and he could make anyone laugh. He loved riding down the Ocean City and Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk on his scooter with his wife by his side. Mickey loved to enjoy nice meals out to eat with family and friends. Taking his wife out for crabs was one of his favorite summertime activities. Mickey was an animal lover; his dog, Jet, of 14 years was his very best friend. Mickey also loved Christmas and made it special for his family year after year. He was a devoted husband, father, grandad, and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Brackett; daughter, Angela Marie Cascone (Chris); and grandchildren, Jon Randolph Shimer III and Julia Rose Shimer. He leaves behind a legacy of respect, love, and happiness. He will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to hospice. They made Mickey’s transition to heaven peaceful and painless.
