Robert Lee Jones Sr., lifetime fireman
Robert “Buck” Lee Jones Sr., 64, beloved father, grandfather, brother and firefighter, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at his home.
Buck was born Jan. 27, 1960, in Seaford, a son of the late Robert “Bob” Franklin Jones and Della Mae (Mitchell) Jones.
He graduated from Delmar High School Class of 1979, where he played football. Not long after graduation, he landed a job with Hoffman-LaRoche Pharmaceutical Co. In 1980, he went to DuPont in Seaford, where he worked as a machinist until 2000. He then spent several years working on the railroad as a conductor and bridge operator. He was the consummate firefighter and a lifetime member of Delmar Fire Department Station 74 and Lewes Fire Department. He served both stations in various capacities and would always put others’ needs in front of his own. Buck was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved to ride, and for many years he was involved in motocross. Buck was happiest when in the woods or field, in his camo gear, hunting deer or turkeys, or spending time with family and friends on the beach and surf fishing. He was also a faithful fan of NASCAR and the Washington Redskins. His greatest passion was his family. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren, and supported them in all they did. He will be remembered for his unwavering love for family, his community and fire service.
