To give people opportunities to plant some seeds of creativity and make their own silver jewelry pieces, Heidi Lowe Gallery offers classes for stacker rings, intention necklaces with a stone, rings of intention and mantra bracelets, as well as a four-session statement ring series.
Students will learn various metalworking techniques to make a wearable piece of personalized silver jewelry from start to finish.
During intention necklace with a stone and rings of intention classes, each student will look inward to come up with a word that embodies how they wish to direct their focus. The word of intention will be incorporated into a pendant with a faceted stone setting or a ring with a customized pattern. The mantra cuff bracelet class is similar in that the piece is stamped with personal meaning to serve as a wearable reminder. In the stacker rings class, students using various silver wires will make three different rings that can be worn separately or as a stack.
In a more in-depth series of four sessions, statement ring students will learn the basics of metalsmithing, design and more as they create their own hollow silver statement ring with a set stone. Skills such as filing, sanding, soldering and polishing will be covered, as well as forming, roller printing and stone setting.
The class will meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Thursdays, April 4, 11, 18 and 25, in the Heidi Lowe Gallery studio at 119 Front St., Lewes. The four-session course costs $400 per student. The fee includes the materials and a stone.
One-session classes take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesdays, except intention necklace with a stone, which meets from 6 to 9 p.m., April 3. Students may choose individual sessions on the following dates: April 3, stacker rings; April 17, rings of intention; and April 24, mantra cuff bracelet.
