Joan L. Ennis, longtime church member
Joan L. Ennis, 92, of Frankford, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, April 11, 2024.
She was born in Salisbury, Md., Nov 3, 1931, to the late Norman S. Lynch and Viola Murray.
Joan graduated from Selbyville High School in 1948 and worked as a secretary for Norman S. Lynch & Co. before having children. After becoming a mother, she stayed home to care for her home and family.
Basketball was her favorite sport; she loved playing and was co-captain of her high school team. She loved to cheer for Duke University. Joan was also crowned Miss Delmarva in 1950.
She was a longtime member of The River Church and enjoyed being heavily involved in her church for over 50 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Ennis. She is survived by her children, Rev. Mike Ennis and his wife Karen Ennis of Millsboro, and Lisa Ennis Evans and her husband Mark Evans of Frankford; three grandchildren, Heather Sells and her husband Rev. Bryan Sells, Rev. Norman Michael Ennis Jr. and his wife Rev. Lexa Ennis, and Jennifer Abbott and her husband Lex Abbott; and four great-grandchildren, Lilly Grace Sells, Ephraim Ennis, Gianna Marie Ennis and Emma Abbott.
A service to celebrate Joan’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, at The River Church, 35175 Roxana Road, Frankford, where friends and family may gather starting at 1 p.m. A private interment will be held at Roxana Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Joan’s name to The River Church, 35175 Roxana Road, Frankford, DE 19945.
