The residents of Milton often refer to their town as Mayberry, a nod to the simpler, slower setting of “The Andy Griffith Show.” By the looks of this photograph from the 1950s, they’re not too far off. This photo was made in front of what was then the town’s municipal building and police station at 106 Union St. The building, built in 1930, has been home to a number of businesses in the decades since this picture was taken – it’s currently the location of GGA Construction – but it still looks pretty much the same. More recently, town hall was located at the corner of Union and Federal streets, which is the current home of the Milton Police Department. Town hall is now just a few doors up on Federal Street, with staff moving into the renovated building just before the official dedication Dec. 9, 2006.
