‘Queering Rehoboth Beach’ author event set May 25

May 15, 2024

Browseabout Books will host author and historian James T. Sears for a signing of “Queering Rehoboth Beach: Beyond the Boardwalk” from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 25, at 133 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach.

“Create a More Positive Rehoboth” was a decades-long goal for progress and inclusiveness in a charming beach town in southern Delaware. Rehoboth, which was established in the 19th century as a Methodist Church camp meeting site, has over time become a thriving mecca for the LGBTQ+ community.

In “Queering Rehoboth Beach,” Sears charts this significant evolution, drawing upon extensive oral history accounts, archival material and personal narratives.

A former Fulbright Program fellow and an independent scholar focusing on queer history, Sears is the author or editor of numerous books, including “Growing up Gay in the South” and “Rebels, Rubyfruit and Rhinestones: Queering Space in the Stonewall South.“
