Cape crowns champions on day one of track championships

The Vikings’ Kayla Albertella won the pole vault as she reached 8 feet 9 inches to help her team lead the standings after the first of the two-day Henlopen Conference Championships May 11 and 12.  The Vikings are on top with 40.50 points after five events. Caesar Rodney is second with 37.83 points.

The Cape girls also won the 4 by 800-meter relay. The team of Ali Coning, Elizabeth Sparks, Madison MacElrevey and Shanel Dickens took first in 10:01.00 with Delaware-bound Dickens running a sizzling 2:18 on the anchor leg. Day two of competition begins at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 12, at Lake Forest High School.

The Cape boys crowned two conference champions as Jeremiah Cohen won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet 6 inches, and his Viking teammate Dre Miller took first in the long jump after leaping 22 feet 3 inches.
