DART Beach Bus services to start May 20
Delaware Transit Corp. announced DART’s Beach Bus services will begin Monday, May 20, operating daily with increased frequencies, early morning to late night, through Sunday, Sept. 8. Routes serve Rehoboth Beach and the Boardwalk, Lewes, Long Neck, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, South Bethany, Fenwick Island, Millsboro, Georgetown and Ocean City, Md. All buses are ADA-accessible and equipped with bike racks.
Visitors and residents are encouraged to use DART’s Rehoboth Park & Ride and Lewes Transit Center. The Rehoboth Park & Ride is located at 20055 Shuttle Road just north of the entrance to Rehoboth Avenue. The Lewes Transit Center is located at 17616 Coastal Highway just south of Five Points. Parking is free at both facilities, and the bus fare is paid upon boarding. The one-way cash fare is $2. Student fare is $1. Reduced fare is $.80 for people who are 65 and older or have a certified disability. Those who are blind (with DVI photo ID) ride free. The best value for riding the bus is to purchase a pass. The cost of the daily pass is $4. For even greater savings, the 7-consecutive-day pass is $16 and the 30-consecutive-day pass is $60. A 20-ride ticket is also available for $26 only on the DART Pass app.
During the Beach Bus season, Route 204 (yellow line) will be extended to the Rehoboth Park & Ride from the Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal and Lewes Transit Center, serving the outlets along Coastal Highway with select trips, and serving Big Oaks Campground. Route 208 (blue line) will be extended to the Lewes Transit Center from the Rehoboth Park & Ride, serving the outlets, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach and connections to Ocean City.
DART’s Route 305 Beach Connection operates weekends and holidays between Wilmington and Lewes, from Saturday, May 25 through Labor Day Monday, Sept. 2. The comfortable motor coach offers 45 seats, two wheelchair positions, and under-coach storage compartments for beach gear and luggage. The bus serves the Wilmington Transit Center, Christiana Mall, Odessa Park & Ride in Middletown, and Scarborough Road Park & Ride in Dover, and ends at the Lewes Transit Center. Riders traveling from New Castle County are encouraged to buy a 3-zone daily pass for $10 or from Kent County a 2-zone daily pass for $8. Passes can also be used on all local Beach Bus services.
