Marianne Flynn, dedicated volunteer
Marianne Flynn, 85, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024, with her daughter Kathleen by her side, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. She was born Friday, Feb. 10, 1939, to the late Thomas M. Flynn and Agnes K. Flynn (Haney) of the North Side of Pittsburgh, Pa. She was a graduate of St. Benedict's Academy, not far from where she grew up.
Marianne worked as an administrative assistant in law firms and real estate for many years, and enjoyed the work that she did. She loved to travel and spend time at the beach. She delighted in having family gatherings and spending time with friends. She was very active as a volunteer for the American Heart Association for many years. Marianne was very proud of her Irish heritage and cherished her hometown of Pittsburgh, Pa. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to call her family or friends.
In addition to her parents, Marianne was preceded in death by her brother, Tom; grandson, Christopher; and son, Brian. She is survived by her sister, Patricia R. Brown; sister-in-law, Susan Flynn; children Patrick G. Simmons, John H. Simmons (Arline), Maureen K. Justice (Michael), Kathleen M. Flynn, Denise Laris (Rich); grandchildren, David T. Simmons (Kristen), Kristin M. Simmons, Kevin M. Justice, John T. Simmons (Miranda), Allen M. Justice (Rachael), Jenna B. Simmons (Eric) and Sean P. Flynn; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 8, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach, with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Delaware Hospice, delawarehospice.org; or the Alzheimer's Association, alz.org.
