Jeffrey Joseph Kipp, veteran, loved the outdoors

Jeffrey Joseph Kipp, 79, affectionately known as Joe to his friends and family, passed away peacefully Friday, May 10, 2024, in Lewes. He was born Jan. 20, 1945, in Wilmington. Joe was a man whose life was marked by dedication, kindness, and a passion for the outdoors.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara Ann Kipp (Sparks), who was his partner in every sense of the word. He was predeceased by his sisters, Patricia Vitalo of Newark, and Marie Lee of New Castle; and his parents, Jeffrey and Mary Kipp, who instilled in him the values of hard work and compassion that he carried throughout his life.

A proud graduate of his local high school, Joe went on to serve his country in the Army before embarking on a 38-year career as a lab technician with DuPont Experimental Station and Chestnut Run. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident to all who knew him.

Joe's love for fishing led him to win the Big Bass World Championships in 1996, a testament to his skill and patience. An avid Notre Dame fan, he enjoyed both basketball and football, sharing his enthusiasm with friends and family. Joe was an active member of Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540, American Legion Post 17, and Lewes Senior Center, where he formed many lasting friendships.

Described by those who knew him as loving, kind, and friendly, Joe's warm presence and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all. His was a life well-lived, full of joy, laughter, and the love of a close-knit community.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 21, at Parsell Funeral Homes, Atkins~Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 10 a.m.
