Dannie L. Brooks, loved flying
Dannie L. “Dan” Brooks passed away in his home in Millsboro Monday May 13, 2024, with Patti, his beloved wife of 44 years, by his side. He was born Oct. 7, 1954, in Lancaster, Pa. Dannie was the son of the late Albert C. Brooks and Helen L. Paterson.
Dan dedicated his professional life to the hydraulic industry, where his expertise as a sales engineer was revered by colleagues and clients alike. His knack for problem-solving and keen understanding of mechanics made him an invaluable asset in his field.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Dan was a proud member of both the National Rifle Association and the National Fire Protection Association, reflecting his commitment to safety. His diverse interests and pursuit of furthering his skills were evident in both the many woodworking projects which brought him much joy and mastering the intricacies of automobile mechanics. In retirement, he loved indulging in friendly rounds of golf and billiards.
One of Dan's passions was taking to the skies in Cessna planes, where he found freedom and exhilaration among the clouds. His adventurous spirit knew no bounds, and his love for flying was a testament to his thirst for exploration and discovery.
Dan was a person who shared his talents broadly in the communities in which he lived. Two of the organizations he served were the Longs Park Amphitheatre Foundation and Indian River Senior Center. Dan was known as a reliable and resourceful friend to his neighbors, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer his expertise. His reputation for being able to fix anything, coupled with his unwavering generosity, endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Albert. He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia “Patti” Brooks; his mother, Helen Paterson; his brothers, David (Cynthia) and James Brooks; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
Though Dan may have taken his final flight, his spirit of adventure and his legacy of kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, June 21, at Indian River Senior Center, 214 Irons Ave., Millsboro.
His wife, Patti, would like to thank Cancer Support Community Delaware and Vitas Hospice for their help and support in dealing with Dan's diagnosis, his care, and his final days, allowing him to pass on with dignity and love.
