Jolly Trolley launches new Sussex County nature tour

June 6, 2024

Debra Seyler, tour host at Jolly Trolley Charter Tours in Rehoboth Beach, recently announced a new Bays, Bayous & Botanicals Tour that spotlights three of Sussex County's major nature attractions.

"We worked with the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays, manager of James Farm Ecological Preserve; Delaware Botanic Gardens at Pepper Creek; and Trap Pond State Park to create unique, educational guided tours of these three major Sussex County nature attractions,” said Seyler.

During the first offering of the new expedition, Mark Carter, Delaware Center for the Inland Bays development director, led the James Farm guided tour and explained the importance of horseshoe crabs and the CIB reforestation program. He said, "We were pleased to host this first Jolly Trolley tour focused on local Sussex County conservation and related educational programs."

Elizabeth Rives, Delaware Botanic Gardens naturalist and tour guide, said, "The Jolly Trolley tour gave the gardens the opportunity to explain to our guests how a natural habitat is not just beautiful plants, trees and walking trails, but also a vital home for all kinds of wildlife."

Participants explored the 2-acre Piet Oudolf Meadow Garden, which includes 70,000 native perennial plants and grasses, and 12-acre woodlands. Oudolf is a world-renowned garden designer.

At Trap Pond State Park in Laurel, Ranger Kelly Partridge provided a history of Trap Pond and a wagon tour where attendees observed bald cypress trees, turtles and flying eagles.
