Optimist Club recognizes Detective Chad Harmon
The Optimist Club of Sussex County recognized Detective Chad Harmon, school resource officer at Cape High, for his efforts in working with kids in the community at an awards ceremony May 6.
Each year, the Optimist Club honors a law enforcement officer, and Harmon was nominated this year by Adele Jones, former visiting teacher/truancy officer in the Indian River School District.
Jones said she had the pleasure of working with Harmon when he was an SRO at Indian River. She discussed how Harmon encouraged some parents to attend Truancy Court and some students to attend school.
In addition, fellow state policemen Jeff Hudson, Chip Meyers and Tyler Wright said Harmon sets the example for being a state police officer and an SRO.
“It was obvious that he has the respect of his fellow officers,” Jones said.
Cape High Principal Kristen DeGregory and Assistant Principal Tim Slade said they were very appreciative of Hamon’s work in the building.
