Third-grade students at Milton Elementary School recently got a reprieve from the rigors of state testing with a visit to Children’s Beach House in Lewes.
A group of 100 students took part in a day of activities including low ropes challenges, a cooking lesson with CBH Chef Paula Baker, a painting lesson with CBH trustee Connie Miller, field games, and, of course, lots of splashing in the still-frigid Delaware Bay waters.
One student, who had never been to the beach before, called it the best day of his life. For everyone, it was a celebration of the students’ hard work all year long and a joyful taste of the pleasures summer will bring.
CBH residential summer camps will host children from across the state who receive services through the CBH Youth Development Program. Campers will come for a week at a time to build positive relationships, challenge themselves with new environments and tasks, and hone their social-emotional skills through targeted programming.
The MES field trip was a good reminder that the best learning takes place when children and adults are engaged in vibrant and fun social activities.
